Choose Your Mode

Select Single Subject to calculate percentage for one exam, or Multiple Subjects to calculate your aggregate percentage across all subjects.

2

Enter Your Marks

Type the marks you obtained and the total marks. For multiple subjects, add each subject's name, scored marks, and out-of marks separately.

3

Get Instant Results

Your percentage, letter grade, degree class, CGPA equivalent, and a visual pie chart all appear immediately — no page reload required.

4

View Breakdown

For multiple subjects, a detailed breakdown table shows the percentage and grade for each individual subject alongside your aggregate result.

💡 Tip: Enter your student name to personalize the result — useful when calculating for multiple students or sharing results with parents and teachers.

📐 Marks Percentage Formula — Explained Simply

The percentage of marks is one of the most fundamental calculations in academics. Here's the formula and how it works:

Basic Formula

Percentage = (Marks Obtained ÷ Total Marks) × 100

Aggregate Percentage Formula (Multiple Subjects)

Aggregate % = (Sum of All Scored Marks ÷ Sum of All Total Marks) × 100

Single Subject

% = (Scored ÷ Total) × 100

Example: 76 out of 100 → (76÷100)×100 = 76%

Multiple Subjects

% = (ΣScored ÷ ΣTotal) × 100

Example: 240 scored out of 300 total → 80%

Percentage to CGPA

CGPA = Percentage ÷ 9.5

Example: 80% ÷ 9.5 = 8.42 CGPA on 10-point scale

Marks from Percentage

Marks = (% × Total) ÷ 100

Example: 75% of 200 marks = (75×200)÷100 = 150 marks

🔢 Single Subject Percentage Calculation — Examples

Calculating the percentage for one subject is straightforward. You only need two numbers — your marks and the total marks available.

📘 Example 1 — English Test

Marks Obtained: 38  |  Total Marks: 50

Percentage = (38 ÷ 50) × 100 = 76%

Grade: B+ (Very Good)  |  CGPA Equivalent: 76 ÷ 9.5 = 8.0

📗 Example 2 — Mathematics Board Exam

Marks Obtained: 92  |  Total Marks: 100

Percentage = (92 ÷ 100) × 100 = 92%

Grade: O (Outstanding)  |  CGPA Equivalent: 92 ÷ 9.5 = 9.68

📙 Example 3 — Science (Out of 75)

Marks Obtained: 54  |  Total Marks: 75

Percentage = (54 ÷ 75) × 100 = 72%

Grade: B+ (Very Good)  |  CGPA Equivalent: 72 ÷ 9.5 = 7.58

📚 Multiple Subjects Percentage Calculation — Examples

To find your overall or aggregate percentage, add all marks across subjects and divide by total possible marks. This is the standard method used by schools, boards, and universities.

📘 Example 1 — Class 10 Board Results (5 Subjects)

SubjectMarks ScoredTotal MarksPercentage
Mathematics8810088%
Science8210082%
English7610076%
Social Studies7910079%
Hindi8510085%
Total / Aggregate41050082%

Aggregate % = (410 ÷ 500) × 100 = 82% — Grade A (Excellent) · First Class with Distinction

📗 Example 2 — Unequal Maximum Marks

SubjectScoredOut Of%
Physics688085%
Chemistry557573.3%
Maths9010090%
Biology627582.7%
Total27533083.3%

Aggregate % = (275 ÷ 330) × 100 = 83.33% — Grade A (Excellent)

Note: When total marks per subject differ, you must use the aggregate formula — not the average of individual percentages (which would give 82.75%, slightly different).

⚠️ Common Mistake: Never average individual subject percentages to get aggregate. Always use: (Total Scored ÷ Total Maximum) × 100. Averaging percentages gives incorrect results when subjects have different maximum marks.

🎯 Why Calculating Percentage of Marks Matters

Percentage scores are more than just academic records — they open doors to opportunities and affect real-life decisions:

🎓

College Admissions

Most undergraduate admissions in India (DU, AFMC, NLUs) have percentage-based cutoffs. Knowing your exact percentage is critical for eligibility.

💼

Job Applications

Government jobs, banking exams, and PSU recruitment require minimum 60% or 65% in 10th/12th/graduation. Accurate calculation prevents ineligible applications.

🏆

Scholarships

Merit scholarships like NSP, state scholarships, and institutional awards have percentage thresholds. Calculate early to know your eligibility.

📊

CGPA Conversion

Many universities require percentage for job portals. Our calculator instantly shows your CGPA equivalent so you're prepared for both formats.

🔄 From Marks Percentage to CGPA

Once you know your percentage, you can convert it to CGPA using the standard UGC formula. Our calculator shows this automatically in every result.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How to calculate percentage of marks?+
Percentage = (Marks Obtained ÷ Total Marks) × 100. Example: If you scored 450 out of 500, your percentage = (450÷500)×100 = 90%. Use our calculator above for instant results.
How to calculate aggregate percentage from multiple subjects?+
Add all scored marks across subjects, add all maximum marks, then apply: Percentage = (Total Scored ÷ Total Maximum) × 100. Example: 80+70+90 = 240 scored, 100+100+100 = 300 total → (240÷300)×100 = 80%. Never average individual percentages when subjects have different maximum marks.
What is aggregate percentage?+
Aggregate percentage is the overall percentage combining marks from all subjects. Formula: (Total Marks Obtained in All Subjects ÷ Total Maximum Marks) × 100. It is used in college admissions, job applications, and scholarship eligibility checks.
What is a good percentage in Indian exams?+
90%+ is Outstanding. 80–89% is Excellent (First Class with Distinction). 70–79% is Very Good (First Class). 60–69% is Good (Second Class). 50–59% is Average (Pass). Below 40% is typically a Fail. Most competitive admissions and government jobs require a minimum of 60%.
What is 75% of 500 marks?+
75% of 500 marks = (75÷100)×500 = 375 marks. If you scored 375 out of 500, your percentage = (375÷500)×100 = 75%. This is a B+ grade (Very Good / First Class).
Can I calculate percentage if subjects have different maximum marks?+
Yes. Use the aggregate formula: (Sum of Scored Marks ÷ Sum of Total Marks) × 100. Our multiple subjects mode handles this automatically regardless of whether your subjects have equal or different maximum marks.
